Electronic Device Pilot Program 01/25/2013
In order to accommodate 21st Century technology and teach students responsible use of electronic devices, Whitmer High School will run an electronic device pilot program for second semester starting January 28, 2013. This pilot allows students to use their cell phones and/or other electronic devices during non-instructional time in the school day. With privileges come responsibilities, and there are guidelines that students must follow regarding appropriate usage of their electronic devices. Please review both the Electronic Device Pilot Program letter and the Electronic Device Guidelines.
Whitmer High School Parents and Guardians: It is truly a privilege to become a member of this great school community and the new principal of Whitmer High School. As I have been settling in, I have had the opportunity to meet with individuals in small settings and love getting a glimpse of what Whitmer High School is all about. I have come to realize in short order that Whitmer -- Panther Nation -- is a special place! People truly care about each other here, students and staff alike. Whether it has been staff discussions about better ways to address the needs of our students or brief chats with students regarding how they feel about their school, each encounter has shown a contagious level of pride and passion.
In making this transition to Whitmer, I am aware that a change in leadership can bring about feelings of both excitement and anxiety on the part of all parties involved. Rest assured that I intend to work diligently, in collaboration with my staff, to ensure that each student has a safe and motivating learning experience here at Whitmer High School. In addition, it is our shared determination to inspire our students to find their passion, to challenge them to follow their dreams, and to give them the tools needed to achieve those dreams.
As the school year continues, I intend to listen and observe, and as a team, begin to identify those things that are working well along with recognizing issues that could be improved upon. Parents, your input is key. I firmly believe that we are partners in the education of our young people. It is through your support that we make a significant difference in their lives. Through our partnership we can make Whitmer High School an even better place for students to learn and grow.
I am confident that this school year will be outstanding!! Please feel free to contact me or any member of the administrative team if we can be of assistance to you in making this a successful school year.
Go Panthers!
